Two Germanys and Vanity Portraits

Sunday afternoon after the troops went home, Christine called me and Amanda to join her at LACMA to see the new Art of Two Germanys exhibit. It was nice to get out of the house as I was ready to take a nap and call it a weekend. My favorite in this show was a piece called Hand and Foot, rows and rows of old shoes and work gloves found at the site of a train station in German that had been badly bombed and burned in the war. It was so sad and strange to see them lined up all the same gray brown color, everyday objects that once belonged to someone across the world and lost in this terrible war. Shoes with wooden soles held together with nails, from a very different time, which really wasn't that long ago. We Also saw the Vanity Fair portraits, which I enjoyed. I loved all the photos, but it was also really cool to see the old old covers from the early 1900's.

Aquarium

Laurel, Maddy and Ari drove down to visit us today. We made a day trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific, to see lots of fish and seahorses and of course the beautiful beautiful jellies :)
Mr. Bill gave us a VIP tour of the secret backrooms of the aquarium, and showed us lot of pipes that he works on. It was The Festival of Human Abilities that day, so we made our way through swarms of the happy and differently abled, enjoying ourselves greatly.

Right now, after a scrumptious meal of Indian food followed by gelato, David introduced the girls to Leverage, best balancing game EVER.

Happy BunBun Day!

One of the best birthday parties I've ever had due to sweet lovely friends throwing me a surprise karaoke spectacular! Ponies and BunBuns and J-Lo to Journey. See Christine's Flickr for happy happy pictures!

I'm working on a little book about my family right now, and I spent the night scanning photos and transcribing interviews. I think I'm being a penguin here.

This weekend = too much fun with Christine and Jessie at a bad Blackmarket show, drinks at the Mandrake, and Sex In The City with commentary by David + rum & cokes. Also, the purging of the overstuffed yarn closet, now happily stacked with wedding presents + one awesome haircut for me + a 40" flat screen TV for David + a sunday so warm and balmy it felt like SUMMER so add one afternoon spent reading and napping in Bill Botts park complete with popsicles = happy feelings all around ;)

Anything's Possible in 2009

Our last day of 2008 was spent at Disneyland. We arrived around 8:30 and got some hot drinks while we waited to meet up with Amanda and some friends, in town for the holidays. Despite his cup of hot cocoa, it was difficult to get a smile out of David as he wallows in his misfortune to have to spend the day in the Magic Kingdom.Of course, it was a different story once the reason for our trip there appeared. We had a great day visiting and chatting and experiencing the magic and wonder of Disney with Amanda and Brett, and yes, all three of those churros are for him.My absolute highlight of the day was the teacups. Spin spin spin. I love it, especially at night, when the hanging lanterns are lit rainbow colors, and you put your head back when you're spinning and there's only a mesh of dizzy color and laughter, nothing else seems to exist for those 3-4 minutes. There were fireworks we watched in Tomorrowland, while listening to the worst band ever, somthing called Suburban Life or somthing like that? most obnoxious frontman ever. At one point he sreamed, Anything's possible in 2009! followed by a series of "Hey hey hey's" that kept us laughing the rest of the night. David and I made it to 11, and then we decided to go, my feet were numb and in pain at the same time, and I thought it better to split out before the mad rush of the crowd that would follow the midnight celebration. Then I was a little sad that at midnight we were just drifting through thick fog on the freeway at 12 am, even though the whole day was great.
