NFT

I often read the Los Angeles Not For Tourists blog which posts fun or different or maybe overlooked good restraunts in the city. Every great once in a while they'll do a post on somewhere I know already and it puffs me up, like, yeah, I'm superbad. Lo and Behold the other day they did a piece on Ronnies, where Lindsay and I eat lunch all the time. We are definately Not Tourists now!

Bowl o' Hollywood

Haven't been keeping up as I've been so sleepy lately. I come home from work and attempt some errends and chores and then desire to fall asleep immediately.

On Sunday night, Jessie and Lindsay and I went to the Hollywood Bowl to see Feist, eternally adorable Feist. Opening for her was Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, who were a real smoken' gyrating treat. She is my new hero. If I can be reincarnated, I would like to be just like her. I would love to go see Sharon Jones in her own concert and I'll be on the lookout.

HoneyPot

Today the Lovely Ladies of Punch Studio had a bridal shower for me at Tabatha's pretty house! I was so touched at all the delicious wine and cheese and tasty fruits and breads and delicious tidbits that Lindsay & Tab arranged for, also Jen made my beloved Banana-Vanilla Wafer-pudding-cake treat that I haven't had in aeons of time and I was in rapture eating it. Wish I'd thought to bring my camera cause she'd topped it with big pink peonys and it was so beautiful. I made out like a freakin' bandit too, Jen and Karen gave me this oh-so-adorable and useful yellow bee-teapot!!!!! And Karen handmade a cozy for it out of a dishtowl and even stitched on beads into the shape of tiny bees. Then Gina gave me Bee-Tea infusers! Those naughty ladies, I LOVE it!!!! I'm getting very spoiled by all this wedding love and I want to hug everyone and feel like my heart is bigger than it ever was before with all the good wishes and sweet gestures. Kitty made friends with this bow (that Jen also made) and wore it for half an hour tonight.

Vegas

This weekend was rediculous fun. Me and the Ladies, we went to Vegas for my Bachlorette party. We drive down Friday night in a thunder storm, and arrived at our beautiful room at Mandalay Bay. This hotel has the best pool ever; we lounged in the sand and sun and fake waves and fake river, and felt wonderful. This was followed by a delicious meal at Border Grill, where I sampled the most wonderful watermelon mojito. Tiny took us to Jet, a dance club in the Mirage, and we partied into the morning, she also met some guys having a Bachelor party, and we ended up hanging out with them and enjoying their reserved couch secion and free drinks. Too bad they were all mostly married and trying to make out with everybody, but I guess that's just Vegas and clubs like that. We still had the best time dancing together and laughing and drinking. Dance dance dance, I could barely walk back to the taxi line my feet hurt so bad. I want to thank you girls for showing me such a fun, awesome time. I was so truly happy and really enjoyed you all!

AKMB

All Known Metal Bands is the latest of the McSweeney's book club offerings to arrive in the mail at my door. It's got a baddass cover with shiny gold foil, and the inside is exactly what the cover says. It's a listing, silver type on black pages, of 51,000 names of metal bands. I am confused about my feelings. One, this books is cool looking, it has shiny gold foil. Two, I can't read it like a novel, which is what I want from my book club membership. Three, the names are really funny, it reads like a really hilarious poem. Four, heavy metal is kind of annoying. Can't say I was ever into it, not that is isn't awesome, but I was more into Tori Amos and TLC when I was at those formative years when I could have possibly been into heavy metal. Five, now this book is in my house taking up space, which is pretty limited - the bookshelf is already overflowing with things I love reading or have yet to dig into, so there just isn't a heck of a lot of leeway here. Six, I think I'd like it a lot more if it actually had pictures of the bands. Then I might be more entertained when comparing the 20 bands that share the name "Requium" or the 10 named "Condemmed". So, there it is.

Some of my favorite names:

Baby Stab Horror
Brainpeaches
Evicting The Testicular Squatters
Fecalbacteria
Hymen of Darkness
Lipstick Liontigers
Ninja Magic
Sexorcist
Sifilis ( I'm such a sucker for things named after STDs)
WeeDust ( I thought that was cute)

There are probably other good ones, but it's way too many for me to get thorugh. Anyway, there it is again.

Holy Heck!

How is it July? How did it come so fast? I have 39DAYS until the wedding, and I'm gonna pee my pants! I sat down last night to try and write what I don't want to call vows, cause we are just using some standard non-dom vows, but I was ultra inspired by Rachel at Joe's service, when she wrote the most beautiful vow for him. I was so moved and realized you don't get many chances in life so obvious to really say something wonderful to the person you love. At that moment, all my conceptions about this idea changed and I wanted us to have something to say to one another at our service that we write for one another, just something small and personal. I think I've cursed myself, becasue i've always said it's lame to write your own, like, just cause you're getting married now it means your a poet? So now I'm stuck. I sat down last night and started trying to come up with some really beautiful words, and I feel stricken. I imagine the moment, but all I can do is stand trapped the gaze of everyone I know, and David staring at me while I'm silent. When I finally got some ideas out, they are so plain and simple, I like them for that, but I thought I'd be able to reach in my pocket and pull out something more profound or at least more articulate with a wider, more intersting vocabulary. I mean, I used to wite a lot, stories and poems and all sorts of things and now I'm reduced to such basic language. Maybe it's better that way, maybe that's how I keep it from being to flowery or sappy or overdone. I know it's going to be hard to get though so it's gonna be really really short, everytime I try to read it aloud to see how it sounds, I start crying. This is no good, if you're attending the wedding, just prepair yourself now for my snot. Cause I'm gonna cry, and it's gonna be the full runny nose, snot on the face crying, I'm sure. If I'm this emotional now, I'm going to be even worse then. Lets take a poll, who thinks if I take a couple shots before the ceremony, do I have a better chance of keeping my cool? or will I snot myself even more?

Sunday was lovely with a trip to the valley to thrift with the Tiny. We got her a really cute nightstand at the Goodwill, and we hung out at the Handmade store and looked at things with kittens on them. The day's highlight was going to the puppy store in front of her apartment, Puppy and Me, and getting to play with this tiny baby pomeranian, all white and fluffy. I realized I'd never held a puppy before in my life, that I could remember. It was only 2 pounds, and it seemed to have no gravity as it jumped and bounced and sprang around. It was like a muppet, and it was too cute to really exist.

I found this on etsy, and I want it so bad! There is no end to my bee desire. Way to go,Sunnyrising! Its a bee necklace with blown glass leaf, so pretty!

This last week has been really fun with my sister Laurel visiting. We've been going out, catching movies and eating great food and having a nice visit together. Her husband Justin joined us for the 4th of July weekend, and it's been a blast. We went to the Hollywood Bowl on the 4th, for fireworks accompanied by the LA Philharmonic. It was a test of David's strength however, as this year the theme was the 50th anniversary of the LA Dodgers, and David is a Giant's fan. Apparantly, that equals a night of torture listening to songs about the dodgers and ripping the Giants, so he was a trooper, though he had to start yelling in protest at certain times. The fireworks were awesome, and we got to experience Randy Newman singing "I Love LA" to the mockery of all. All in all, a great time.

Yesterday we went to the Griffith Park Observatory, something I've been wanting to do for a long long time. It's a beautiful drive / hike up there, and you can see the whole city from the top. The building is gorgeous, and the exhibits very beautiful. There's a giant golden swining pedulum that hypnotized me with it's lovliness. I was especially enamored with a wall size Periodic Table of Elements that lit up - little boxes with little elements inside! Our favorite was a show in the domed theater; you lay back in the reclining seats to see an incredible movie on the celing about the history of astonomy and the billions of galaxies of stars we are barely a speck in, and you feel so very small. I was intrigued by Mars, a planet that once supported oceans and a living environment now reduced to dust and barren cliffs. It scares me, thinking of how we abuse earth's atmosphere and how it will probably happen to us as well.

After we left the observatory, we went to Father's Office in Culver City for dinner. We've been waiting a long time to try it, and Justin especially was excited to try their amazing famous ketchup-less hamburgers. They were all we'd dreamed of, and we were all delighted with our selection from the wall of 60 beers on tap. I tried the Old Speckled Hen, and it was smooth and creamy and I loved it. David got one that was dark and smokey and tasted like bacon.
It was a great conclusion to a really full weekend. Laurel and Justin will now continue on to Las Vegas and I'll see there there next Saturday!

Crate & Kitty

We got our first wedding present in the mail, and Elwood thusly got to discover the brown perforated paper that fills the boxes of Crate & Barrel shipped goods. I made him a jungle fort and we went to town on that paper for days, slowly shredding brown papery bits and scattering them over the living room floor.

Have a Hart

I got to see my friend Josh Hart for the first time in a very long time on Saturday, at Cannibal Flower. It's a monthly art exhibit downtown that he participates in. Got to see 2 of his new paintings, they are very pretty. I was happy to see him, especially doing so well and happy with his girfriend Heather who seems pretty cool. I always want to take home Josh's paintings, I'm lucky enought to have a few, including my giant size Mr. Jinx portrait which amazes everyone who visits my apartment.
