Lovely Ladies

I've been trying to get back into drawing more, and have three new drawings that I quite like, they are of particularily loooovely ladies. First, Nancy Sinatra, I drew her from an old record album cover, those are the boots, that were made for walking. Next, a model from an old Anthropologie catalog. Lastly, and maybe my favorite, a drawing of Olivia, a handmade doll from Bolivia that I bought on Etsy. I've taped what I think is Purple Lupin next to her, a wild flower I removed from the wild on our last hike.

Shhhhh.

Let there be a moment of silence for Elwood. He has lost his ear today. I am terribly sad.

Cinco de Mayo

This was a splendid weekend of color and fun! Saturday Christine came over in festive bright Cinco de Mayo colors, and here I've photographed them on the tee shirt quilt. We went to the Beaware Party at Chad's loft downdown, which I discovered is right next to GUESS. The building was also, colorful as Christine.
At the party, Josh displayed his Cincodemayo-ness by wearing a bandana and taking tequilla shots with me. Here, he pretends to water a tiny succulant. Joel models a saucy cap.
We journyed to Bar 107 for more drinking and dancing, and this Tiny got toasted, and had a wonderful time. Today, Seis de Mayo, I had the joy of meeting up with Sam, Kimmy, and Christine at Hazel & Juan's apratment and seeing their super rad studio. It's huge and full of great books, art, curiosities, and toys. I even spied some Lindsey Conjoined Baby drawings on the wall, to my great suprise and pleasure! I plan on returning soon for some crafing and drawing nights. They are next to a church, and are serenaded through the walls by soulfull gospel singing. We all went to Manni's bakery and then to Family, where I bought wonderful books to devour at home later.

So many fun upcoming things: Thusday night will be Devotchka at the Walt Disney Concert hall! + Saul Williams doing poetry readings all in the same musical poetic night!
Friday night I join some lovely ladies at Largo for The Watson Twins!Then, Saturday night, the first Hollywood Forever Cemetery Screening of the Summer : Vertigo - most wonderful Hitchcock film of phobia and obsession!

Mozza = YUM

Last evening was the unexpected treat of dinner at Mozza on Highland and Melrose. I've wanted to eat there for just about forever, driving by it everytime I go to + from Christne's. One of the chefs is the lady who created La Brea Bakery - YUM. David's tried to take me a couple times, but when they told him he'd need to make a reservation 3 weeks in advance, he was over it on priciple. Kristen called to make such a 3 week in advance appointment, and was delighted by a cancellation opening a 5:45 PM dinner space for her, Agata, and myself. We dined deliciously on gormet pizzas decked with funghi misiti mushrooms, goat chesses and other delights I don't know how to pronounce, but I sure knew how to gobble them down. Kristen treated us to a lovely meal of pizzas and red wine, and caramel ice cream. We had wonderful happy girl talk, and even avoided the $7.50 valet parking with a lucky parking find 2 blocks over. It was a lovely afternoon, and I made my way home full of wine and happy feelings. When I got home, the Miriam art print had arrived, and was an extra treat on my day.

Last night, David and Kristen and I went to see Russian Ark at the Arclight. It's so soft and pretty, and feels like a dream when you're watching it. My favorite part is when the Marquis finds the older woman talking to the paintings, and he dances with her, and twirls her, and she runs away laughing saying good bye, gentleman, and he keeps saying, she is offended, how charming! I just love that lady.

Dr. Sketchy's at M Bar

On this beautiful Sunday afternoon, Kristen, Josh and I traversed to M Bar on Fountain and Vine for an afternoon of Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School. You reserve a table and bring your paper and drawing gear, and enjoy 2 & 1/2 hours of live model drawing - your model being a cute naughty Burlesque Pinup girl. The model was Angela Ryan, and here's a photo from her site. I'll post up my drawings tonight when I get home. Ta!
